Society for Popular Astronomy Meetings


SPA meetings are held on the last Saturday of January, April, July and October in Lecture Theatre One at the University of Westminster, Marylebone Road, London W1. Meetings start at 2.30pm and last until about 5.30pm, including a break for refreshments.

The first section is generally taken up by a talk from a guest speaker, the second section has shorter items on current astronomical events, and reports from sections.

The entrance to the University of Westminster is directly opposite the London Planetarium. Baker Street Underground station is close at hand and several bus routes stop nearby. Come through the glass-fronted reception lobby and cross the courtyard to the door marked Bookshop directly opposite. Inside, turn left and Lecture Theatre One is on the right. Members and friends are welcome. Entry is free as are refreshments at the mid-meeting break. There is an opportunity to buy books at the SPA bookstall.

Dr Bob Bentley of the Mullard Space Science Laboratory will give a talk on the latest observations of the Sun by the SOHO and Yokhoh solar observation spacecraft.

1997 Saturday November 15
Special Planetarium Meeting
Starts 10.00am sharp. No latecomers admitted. Speaker: Francisco Diego.

1998 Saturday February 7
AGM
Please note this is a week later than usual. Speaker: Dr Bob Abraham of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, who will give a talk on "Distant Galaxies - the Hubble Deep Field".
